Hurricane Harvey: How You Can Help
08/30/2017
Hurricane Harvey pummeled southeast Texas with over 2 feet of rain this week. At the moment, it’s wreaking havoc along the Gulf Coast and has crossed into Louisiana. There have been 30 confirmed fatalities and thousands of people have been displaced from their homes. Shelters are filling up and are offering food and clothing. Our hearts go out to the victims and families that have lost their homes. Here’s how you can help:
-The Mayor of Houston, Sylvester Turner, has established the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund as part of the Greater Houston Community Foundation that will accept tax deductible flood relief donations for victims that have been affected by the recent floods.
-If you are in the greater Houston area, and have a spare bedroom, you can list it on Airbnb for free to give shelter to people in need.
- GoFundMe, the social fundraising site, has created a landing page that gathers the campaigns on its platform related to Harvey.
-If you would like to donate food and canned goods, consider donating to the Houston Food Bank.
Other items that are needed are:
• Blankets & Towels
• Pillows
• Air mattresses
• Toiletries
-You can also consider donating to the the SPCA of Texas. They are organizing evacuations of pets in Texas and offer resources on pet-friendly housing for evacuees.
-Or you can always donate to The American Red Cross
Our hearts and prayers go out to the people impacted by this devastating storm.
